Cornell case sparks campus sexual assault concerns in KC
KC-area colleges are seeking outreach from sexual assault advocates as students and survivors question how universities handle reports of assault. Kansas City-area colleges are turning to sexual assault advocates in response to a recent case involving a former Cornell student who alleges that the university mishandled her report that fraternity members raped her in 2024. Since late September, five colleges have asked advocates with the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) (MocSA) to speak with students about how to report sexual assault and support can make a difference between coming forward and staying silent. MOCSA's crisis line took nearly 3,700 calls through mid-October, more than the roughly 3,400 it took in all of 2025. Survivors can seek confidential support without filing a formal report without filing formal reports, and the National Sexual Assault Hotline is also available.
