WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – A jury found President Joe Biden’s son guilty of three felony charges related to buying a gun while addicted to drugs.

President Biden said he accepts the outcome, but lawmakers’ reactions are more of a mixed bag.

After a week-long trial and just several hours of deliberations a Delaware jury found the son of a sitting president guilty.

“No one in this county is above the law,” said Special Counsel David Weiss.

Special Counsel David Weiss brought the case against Hunter Biden who is now convicted of lying about his drug use when he bought a gun in 2018.

“This case was about the illegal choices the defendant made while in the throes of addiction,” said Weiss.

President Biden said in a statement he accepts the outcome of the case and respects the judicial process.

“We believe in the rule of law,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).

Maryland Democrat Congressman Jamie Raskin said the conviction undercuts Republican arguments that President Biden uses the Justice Department to target former President Donald Trump.

“I have not heard a single Democrat anywhere in the country cry fraud, cry fixed, cry rigged,” said Raskin.

However, New York Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik remains critical of the Justice Department.

“This was Joe Biden’s corrupt DOJ that tried to negotiate a sweetheart plea deal,” said Stefanik.

Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison.

Georgia Republican Congressman Rich McCormick said he’ll hold off on judging the conviction until he sees the sentence.

“That will be more telling about the Justice Department and what we think is going to actually happen,” said McCormick.

The judge didn’t immediately set a sentencing date. Hunter Biden is considering an appeal. He’ll be back in court in September in California for a federal trial over allegedly avoiding more than $1 million in taxes.
