This 15-year-old Johnson County brunch spot gets new name, new owners, a tweaked menu
New offerings at this rebranded restaurant include Crunch French Toast and huevos benedicto. And they’re keeping the Berry Delicious Pancakes. The Shawnee location of breakfast and brunch restaurant Eggtc has been rebranded as Rize N Shine by Matt and Heather McQueeny. The McQueenys have kept the staff and 80% of the menu intact, and plan to change the menu again once they receive more feedback. The menu includes French Toast, huevos benedicto, French Toast for the King, buttermilk pancakes with berry compote. The owners also plan to add more locations in the future.

The Shawnee location of breakfast and brunch restaurant Eggtc. was closed for about a week.
When it reopened Monday, the spot had changed slightly: a fresh coat of paint, new menu items and a new name.
And new owners. Matt and Heather McQueeny bought Eggtc. at 7182 Renner Road and rebranded it to Rize N Shine.
The McQueenys kept the staff and 80% of the menu.
“It was a real success before,” Matt said. “The plan here is let the customers tell us what they want.”
They aim to switch up the menu again once they receive more feedback.
The first Eggtc., owned by local pizza chain Minsky’s, opened at 5107 Main St. in 2006. Minsky’s then opened the Shawnee spot in 2009, in the former Arizona’s Neighborhood Bar and Grille.
McQueeny said Minsky’s was looking for a new owner to give the Shawnee location the attention it deserves. Minsky’s still owns the original Eggtc.
So what’s new on Rize’s menu? Crunchy French Toast (three slices of brioche bread and a crunchy, sweet covering), huevos benedicto (an English muffin topped with chorizo sausage, two poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise sauce, avocado and salsa) and French Toast for the King — as in Elvis (two slices of brioche bread stuffed with peanut butter and banana).
Staples like its Berry Delicious Pancakes (buttermilk pancakes with berry compote) will still be served.
Matt and Heather have two children — a 22-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old son — who want to be involved in the business someday, too.
“It’s gonna be a real family business,” Matt said, adding they may even add more locations in the future. Stay tuned.
Rize N Shine is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
