Judge will personally review records in lawsuit seeking data from Boise State’s OB-GYN study
An Ada County judge will privately review Boise State University data requested by the Idaho Family Policy Center regarding an abortion study. Judge will personally review data spreadsheets compiled by Boise State University researchers before ruling on whether the university must hand them over to anti-abortion lobbying group The Idaho Family Policy Center (IFPC). IFPC alleges that Boise State withheld public records related to a widely cited article, which stated that obstetrician-gynecologists fled Idaho after the state’s abortion ban took effect in 2022. The article was published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which stated 35% of OB-GYNs left Idaho between 2022 and 2024 after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. IFPC's petition asked the court to compel the university to provide additional records, including emails and documents from Boise State’S Institutional Review Board (IRB), which approved the researchers’ process for collecting data on human subjects. Boise State has 10 days to deliver the spreadsheets to IFPC.
