Former Bank of America building in Lenexa, a popular building, is being transformed into an event space by Johnson County developer Steve Beaumont. The event space, the Mint, was designed to take advantage of the building's financial history and is expected to host corporate meetings, trainings, weddings and receptions. The 10-month project, which cost $1 million to complete, took millions of hours and took millions to complete. The Mint also features a one-of-a-kind fireplace, a hologram of hologized water vapor, and a bar. The transformation was completed after a decade.

EVENT SPACE, AND AS KMBC NINE ALAN SHOPE TELLS US, IT IS SHOWING OFF A LOT OF COIN. IT’S KIND OF A CREATIVE GUY, AND I LIKE TO SEE THINGS MAYBE THE WAY THEY OUGHT TO BE AND NOT THE WAY THEY ARE. YOU PROBABLY KNOW THE BUILDING, THE POPULAR BANK OF AMERICA BUILDING IN LENEXA ON 95TH STREET NEAR 35, WITH ONE OF THE COOLEST ADDRESSES ANYWHERE. LAST YEAR WE DECIDED TO REINVENT IT. JOHNSON COUNTY DEVELOPER STEVE BEAUMONT BOUGHT THE BUILDING 25 YEARS AGO, BUT NOW HE’S DECIDED TO MAKE THE SPACE SOMETHING UNEXPECTED. WHEN THEY SEE THE VAULT, RIGHT, THEY GET TO OPEN THAT 5,000 POUND DOOR AND THEY GO INSIDE. WHAT USED TO BE THE BANK OF AMERICA VAULT, AND NOW IT’S OUR BAR. YEAH, A NEW EVENT SPACE LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. DESIGNED AFTER THE FINANCIAL HISTORY OF THE BUILDING, WHICH WAS A BANK. THESE WERE THE TELLER WINDOWS THAT WERE BULLETPROOF GLASS. IT’S CALLED, APPROPRIATELY, THE MINT. I LIKE TO FANTASIZE HOW TO USE THESE KINDS OF THINGS IN A WAY THAT WILL HOPEFULLY INTRIGUE AND PLEASE PEOPLE AND MAKE A MEMORABLE PLACE. THE IDEA CORPORATE MEETINGS AND TRAINING SPACE AND MOST OF ALL WEDDINGS AND RECEPTIONS. YOU WANT IT TO BE MEMORABLE. IT’S EVEN GOT A ONE OF A KIND FIREPLACE. IT’S A HOLOGRAM OF FLAMES BROADCAST ONTO TO IONIZED WATER VAPOR. STEVE SAYS IT’S A TEN MONTH PROJECT THAT TOOK MILLIONS TO COMPLETE, BUT SOMETHING HE ADDS WILL BE VERY UNIQUE TO JOHNSON COUNTY. SO MANY OF THE EVENT SPACES ARE DOWNTOWN, IN THE CROSSROADS AND DOWNTOWN, AND THEY’RE REALLY SPECIAL, AND THEY’RE MEMORABLE AND THEY’RE COOL, JOHNSON COUNTY DOESN’T HAVE ANYTHING THAT’S UNIQUELY, YOU KNOW, JOHNSON COUNTY LENEXA ALAN SHOPE KMBC NINE NEWS. THE MINT IS NOT OFFICIALLY OPEN YET, BUT STE
