Update on 2 Wichita restaurant owners in ICE custody, status of their businesses
The owners of La Galette French Bakery and Lady Bird Burrito in Wichita were detained last week in separate incidents. Rob Attar, the owner of La Galette French Bakery in Wichita, was detained by ICE last week and may be re-hired as he attempts to get his green card reinstated. His attorney, Abdul Arif, has filed an emergency motion asking that he be allowed to stay in the country for 60 days while he tries to get this. If denied, Arif plans to get a lawyer in Kansas City with experience in writ of habeas corpus filings to represent Attar. His wife, Krista Attar has found a way to keep La Galeté running while he is away, with employee Maria Esparza and uncle, John Abdayem, taking over Rob's duties. Last weekend, another Wichita food business owner and her family were also detained by Immigration. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the family, raising $12,174.
