The state had previously stripped Wyandott County of local powers in its deal to bring the Chiefs over the state line, following a unanimous vote from the county and city’s board of commissioners to opt out of parts of the law to maintain the city‘power over taxes, zoning, and utilities. The agreement allows the UGs and Wyandot County Board of Public Utilities to keep jurisdiction over the development surrounding the Chiefs Stadium. The stadium and parking areas will be owned by the Kansas Sports Facilities Authority, not subject to local zoning or building codes, and be leased to the Kansas City Chiefs for $7 million per year.
