Where do Kansas governor candidates stand on the new Chiefs stadium deal?
The multibillion-dollar Chiefs development, bringing a new stadium and more to Kansas, has emerged as a hot-button issue in the election. The two candidates for Kansas governor have diverged on the proposed multibillion-dollar Chiefs stadium deal. The project, funded through a mix of public and private investment, will include a new domed stadium for the Chiefs near Legends in western Wyandotte County, a new team training and headquarters site in Olathe and mixed-use development. Public support will include using sales tax and revenue (STAR) bonds to cover development costs. However, Democrat Cindy Holscher, the Democratic nominee and state senator from Overland Park, has criticized the stadium plan as a "huge giveaway to billionaires" and expressed concern that it could put pressure on schools, roads or safety. In an interview with KCTV, Holschers said she welcomes seeing the Chiefs in Kansas but wants it to be a good deal for taxpayers.
