Two KC churches deal with fire and burglary strike within miles and days of each other
St. Stephen Baptist Church is cleaning up after a fire, while less than 3 miles away, St. John's Anglican Church lost century-old religious items to thieves. Two Kansas City churches, St. Stephen Baptist Church and St. John's Anglican Church, were hit by fire and burglary within hours of each other. The incidents occurred less than 3 miles apart. The church's pastor, Latonya Barber, said the congregation is focused on moving forward and focusing on worshiping God. The thieves targeted brass and electronics, but the greatest concern is the religious items used during services. The stolen items, including a processional cross and an offering plate, date back generations and are being offered a $2,000 reward for their return. The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating the incidents.
