An homage to the Chiefs fills this superhero movie trailer. Kansas City bonus: a bit of Paul Rudd. Rapper Irv Da Phenom's song "Red and Yellow," a tribute to the Kansas City Chiefs, is featured in a new trailer for the Marvel superhero movie, "Wolverine & Deadpool." The song was released in 2010 and has since inspired others to remix Wiz Khalifa's hit "Black and Yellow" using the colors of Pittsburgh. The trailer debuted on National Best Friends Day and has been tagged by fans on social media. Irv, who is from Kansas City by way of Florida, wrote that the Marvel Cinematic Universe "just got a little bit more KC flavor."

A Kansas City rapper’s tribute to the Kansas City Chiefs, made back in 2010, is featured in a new trailer for the next Marvel superhero movie, “Wolverine & Deadpool.”

It’s a color match made in Marvel heaven for a musician who also just happens to be a comic book fan.

Irv Da Phenom released the song “Red and Yellow” 14 years ago, inspired like oh so many others to remix Wiz Khalifa’s hit “Black and Yellow,” an homage to Pittsburgh using the colors of that city’s pro sports teams.

Though “Red and Yellow” — adjacent to Chiefs colors of red and gold — came out awhile ago, longtime Chiefs fans recognized it immediately when the trailer debuted Saturday.

In a tearful video posted to his Facebook page, Irv says he “knew it was in the pipeline” because the movie studio contacted him about using his song. But he was overwhelmed when people who saw the trailer started tagging him on social media.

A superhero buddy flick, “Wolverine & Deadpool” stars Ryan Reynolds as the wisecracking Deadpool, whose costume is red, and Hugh Jackman as metal-clawed Wolverine, in yellow.

Reynolds shared the trailer Saturday on National Best Friends Day, tweeting on X: “I hope everyone gets to work with their best friend at least once in their lifetime. I know I can’t wait to finally do it.”

He punctuated the sentiment with red and yellow hearts.

“Yesterday … so many of my inner child’s wildest dreams came to life as I watched Deadpool & Wolverine walk onscreen to the sound of my voice. Man. GOD is good,” Irv Da Phenom (real name Mitchell Irving Jr.) wrote on his Facebook page Sunday.

The artist, who is “from Kansas City by way of Florida,” wrote on Instagram that the Marvel Cinematic Universe “just got a little bit more KC flavor.”

So true, because he is not the only KC connection in the trailer.

“We also get Deadpool’s lovely fourth-wall breaking line upon seeing Ant-Man’s skeleton, ‘Paul Rudd finally aged!’” notes The Wrap.

Rudd, who grew up in Overland Park, plays Marvel’s Ant-Man.

Irv described this experience as a dream.

“I remember being a young kid and actually PRAYING to God to give me superpowers,” he wrote on Facebook.

“I spent every little dime I earned in elementary and middle school buying comic books from across the street at 7-11. Manga, Anime, & Comic books have always been a huge part of my life.

“I would draw my own characters and make my own comic books. In the hood, it wasn’t necessarily the ‘cool’ thing back then, but I was obsessed.

“I’ll never forget the only time my dad took me to see an R-Rated movie as a kid it was @realwesleysnipes as Blade. Watching him and @officialmichaeljai as Spawn convinced me I too would be a superhero one day!”

“Black and Yellow” was the lead single on Khalifa’s “Rolling Papers” album.

It didn’t specifically mention Pittsburgh’s sports teams, but Khalifa, who wears Steelers gear in the video, said he wanted the song to be the football team’s anthem.

What came next was what MTV called a “litany of remixes to remember” from “established rappers to neophytes” including actor Tom Hanks’ rapper son, Chester Hanks, who created “Purple and White (Northwestern University Remix)” for his school.

When the Steelers played the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl in 2011, they used “Black and Yellow” as their song, while the Packers used a Lil Wayne remix called “Green and Yellow,” setting up a competition off the field as well.

“Red and Yellow” is unabashedly about Kansas City — “in the middle of the map” — and the Chiefs. The music video shows scenes from around the city and the rapper, wearing Chiefs red and a team ball cap, on top of Liberty Memorial with the skyline behind him.

Since the movie trailer debuted, he’s been busily accepting congratulations from friends and followers.

“FIGHT FOR YOUR DREAMS. Never be ashamed to BE YOURSELF. Most important, LOVE YOURSELF,” he wrote on Facebook to his fans. “I have so much more in store and so much coming up this summer.”

He has a new album, “Big Lover,” out now.
