'Unsustainable': Blue Parkway Sun Fresh grocery store permanently closes
A Kansas City grocery store officially closed its doors Monday, with owners saying rising costs have made the store "unsustainable." A Kansas City grocery store, KC Sun Fresh, has officially closed its doors due to rising costs. The store, located at The Shops on Blue Parkway, was deemed "unsustainable" by its owners, Community Builders of Kansas City, a nonprofit community development corporation that owns The Shop. The 25 employees have been notified and offered a severance package, and CBKC has offered assistance with finding new jobs. Despite CBKC's financial support, the decision to close was made due to declining sales, economic factors and rising operating costs. CBKC plans to focus its resources on long-term projects such as housing, commercial real estate, and workforce development.
