After suffering a seizure and subsequent cardiac arrest during a team meeting, Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson has been discharged from the hospital.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero received confirmation from Thompson’s agent, Chris Turnage, that the Chiefs defensive player was released from hospital care on Monday evening.

Last Thursday, during a special teams meeting at the Chiefs’ training facility, Thompson experienced a health emergency, prompting immediate action from the medical team staff.

Initially reported to be unconscious yet in a stable condition according to his agent’s statement to Pelissero on Thursday night, Thompson’s situation seems to have since improved significantly.

In an official expression of gratitude on Friday to KCTV, Turnage acclaimed the Chiefs’ medical staff for their swift response.

“Some of the Chiefs’ staff came up today to visit BJ and speak with him, which I thought was a great touch,” Turnage mentioned. “The Chiefs’ training staff were phenomenal. Our thanks go out to them, because if it weren’t for their actions, we’d be facing a very different scenario.”

Last Friday, Chiefs VP of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder updated on Thompson’s condition, mentioning that the player had regained consciousness and was progressing well.

The crucial role of kicker Harrison Butker was also highlighted by Burkholder for being the first to notify the medical team regarding Thompson’s condition.

“Our medical team performed CPR on him,” Burkholder detailed. “They administered one AED shock and were able to revive him. He was in cardiac arrest for just around one minute. The response from our players, security, and coaching staff was exemplary. We then entrusted his care to the Kansas City (Missouri) Fire Department.”

As a result of the emergency, the Chiefs decided to postpone Thursday’s team activities.

Last week, prior to the health scare, Thompson joined the Chiefs during their White House visit to celebrate consecutive Super Bowl victories.

In a social media post during the visit, Thompson expressed his exhilaration with, “Posted at the White House got me feeling like the president.”
