Mulvane horse owner: Euthanization of mustang was best option
The horse, which ran away Oct. 9, was put down by law enforcement near Wichita on Friday. The owner of a horse named Stormy that was euthanized west of Haysville, Kansas, is speaking out about the decision to euthanize the mustang. The horse, owned by Paige Smith of Mulvane, had escaped on Oct. 9 and Smith had been trying to capture her for two weeks before law enforcement intervened due to public safety concerns. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office euthanised the mustangs due to the potential for running into traffic and causing a crash. Smith argued that euthanization was the best option, better than a slow death by a car. The sheriff's office acknowledged that the decision was made to euthen the horse, stating it was considered a safe resolution while considering the safety of community members.
