Kansas City lab to train AI to predict protein changes tied to ALS, Alzheimer’s

A Kansas City lab has been selected for a multi-million-dollar national research effort to train artificial intelligence to predict body changes tied to neurodegenerative disease. A Kansas City lab has been selected for a $28.6 million national research effort to train artificial intelligence to predict protein changes tied to neurodegenerative disease. Investigator Randal Halfmann and a team of local scientists will use technology to predict harmful protein changes related to diseases like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’'s, and ALS. Halfmann's lab will generate over 10 billion of measurements of 50,000 proteins and over a million samples, which will be used to train AI when something goes wrong. The research aims to predict when someone will develop a disease and how fast it progresses. Halfman's team has been working on this problem for years and believes this effort will pave the way for generations.
