As per the latest NFL move, the New Orleans Saints have come to terms with ex-Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay on a one-year contract that could earn him as much as $5 million, according to a source with knowledge of the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The terms of the contract were initially shared by NFL Network and have yet to be made public as the deal has not been officially announced.

Gay, a second-round pick by Kansas City out of Mississippi State in 2020, has competed in the NFL for four years. He boasts two Super Bowl rings and has participated in 57 games, starting 47 of them. He has notched up 233 tackles, along with five sacks, and has accounted for four fumble recoveries, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles over his career.

In the most recent season, Gay was on the field for the start of 15 games, during which he secured 58 tackles, bagged a sack, recovered three fumbles, forced another, and snagged an interception.

With this move, he will now be part of a linebacker squad led by defensive stalwart and captain Demario Davis, who has just penned a two-year extension with the Saints.

Gay’s switch to the Saints makes him the second player to transition from Kansas City’s defensive roster to New Orleans within the last two years, following defensive tackle Khalen Saunders’ departure during last year’s free agency period.
