Seiden's Furs Building in Kansas City Saved From Demolition

A 1874 Kansas City building faced the wrecking ball. A developer and 20-plus dumpsters later, it's becoming a restaurant. The former Seiden's Furs building in Kansas City was saved from demolition by developer Chris Sally after it had a partially collapsed roof and an emergency demolition notice hanging over it. The building, which was built in 1874 and possibly the oldest remaining building within the Downtown Loop, had been declared dangerous by the city in 2021 after heavy rains. Despite initial proposals for a retail or restaurant space, the building is now being redeveloped into Loretta Jean's, a Midwestern restaurant from chef Rick Mullins and Candice Moore. The project has received a 2025 Historic Kansas City Preservation Award for Neighborhood Stabilization.
