Let's Talk: How Balloons and Litter Impact Wildlife and Beyond

One man brought balloon litter he found in KC to ask people to stop doing balloon releases. He says the impact on nature is catastrophic. Bruce Braden from Raytown, Missouri, showed off the debris from balloon releases that cause wildlife to deteriorate. Jacque Blessington from Lakeside Nature Center, who witnessed the incident, agreed that balloons are just part of the problem of litter, particularly the non-natural materials left behind. Both Braden and Blessington urged people to consider alternatives, such as butterfly gardens, bird houses, or even cutting down Bradford pears. Several states have regulations or restrictions against balloon releases. Missouri Rep. Jo Doll recently filed legislation against balloon release, and plans to file another bill during the next session.
