Friends gather to remember Rhegan Spiegel hours after arrests in her killing
Friends of Rhegan Spiegel gathered Thursday night to honor her memory. Friends of Rhegan Spiegel, a former UMKC volleyball player and community leader, gathered to remember her in a vigil outside Turnsol Books and Coffee in the Crossroads in Kansas City, hours after two men were arrested in connection with her shooting death. The vigil was held outside the bookstore after police announced they had taken two men into custody in connection to "vehicle of interest" found in connection. The bookstore's co-owner, Caroline Crews, described Spiegel as "many Rhegans," reflecting her multifaceted contributions to the community. The event was held to encourage healing and also a tribute to Spiegel's contributions to space.
