FIRST WARN FORECAST: A chilly start to Thursday with a warming trend heading into the weekend

Temperatures are increasing overall but some winter-like conditions are in store and a First Warn has been issued for Saturday night into Sunday. A chilly start to Thursday with temperatures expected to remain below the upper 30s and lower 60s across the region, with gusts expected to rise from 20 to 25 mph throughout the day. A new area of low pressure is developing out west and is expected to lift a warm front through the region into Saturday, allowing for strong winds and scattered showers and thunderstorms. However, severe weather is possible as the system moves over the region. A potential severe weather threat is possible, but by mid-morning, rain chances will decrease and partly cloudy conditions will take over. The Kansas City area should have a good viewing opportunity for the eclipse eclipse, which is predicted to occur around 2 p.m. There is a 20% likelihood of increasing rain chances towards midweek.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Low pressure continues to move out toward the Ohio River Valley in the upper mid-Atlantic states while high pressure continues to stay weakened within the four corners. This is still providing a northwestern flow for this afternoon with gusts ranging this morning into the dayside between 20 and 25 mph. We will start in the upper 30s with feel-like temperatures in the middle 20s. This afternoon high temperatures will increase to the upper 50s and lower 60s with mostly sunny skies. By mid-Friday afternoon temperatures rise into the lower 60s.

A new area of low pressure is developing out west and will begin to lift a warm front through the region into Saturday. This will allow us to see gusty conditions Saturday late afternoon into the overnight ranging between 35 and 40 mph hour with better chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday night between the hours of 10 and midnight. A severe weather threat is possible, but isolated, as the storm system moves over the region. By Sunday mid-morning, rain chances will diminish and partly cloudy and breezy conditions will take over with temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Monday expect partly cloudy to mostly clear conditions as temperatures rise into the upper 60s with gusts up to 25 mph mainly out of the west-southwest. We should have a good viewing opportunity here within the Kansas City area for the eclipse, which is anticipated around 2 p.m.

Tuesday and Wednesday disturbance out of the south begins to lift into the Missouri River Valley and there are signs of scattered shower chances but at this particular time, models are not aligning with one another. There are signs of a 20% likelihood of increasing rain chances towards midweek.
