The aircraft, a Boeing 757-200 registered N654DL, landed at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) at 19:15 local time following a let down from FL400 at 23:47 UTC.

A Delta Air Lines scheduled flight from New Orleans to Kansas City declared an emergency whilst en route on 2 April.

Delta Air Lines flight DL8841, a Boeing 757-200 declared the emergency with squawk code 7700 in the descent phase.

Following a normal departure and cruise, flight DL8841 squawked code 7700 whilst passing through FL290 (29,000 feet). The aircraft was established in the descent for the destination Kansas City International Airport (MCI).

The nature of the emergency prompting the 7700 transmission is not yet known.

Flight data shows that Delta flight DL8841 made a delayed departure out of New Orleans International Airport. The flight shows a departure time of 17:21 local time, against a scheduled time of 16:10 local.

The flight then set course normally for Kansas City (MCI), climbing to FL400 (40,000 feet). Approaching the destination it commenced a let down from FL400 at 23:47 UTC. The emergency was then declared at 23:52 UTC passing through FL290.

The flight subsequently landed at MCI at 19:15 local time.

The aircraft conducting the regional service was a Boeing 757-200 registered N654DL. This is a 34.2 year old aircraft belonging to US carrier Delta Air Lines. It has been in service with the airline since delivery in February 1990.
