Reid also revealed that several teams were interested in DC Steve Spagguolo, who was on the last year of his deal and his dream was to become a head coach. Despite losing defensive stars over the years, the Chiefs’ defense has consistently performed well, with Spaggulolo's return giving them a better chance of winning three consecutive Super Bowls.

It is the team’s approach to perhaps treat its coaching staff similar to its players which has yielded this level of success. The Kansas City Chiefs have done their best to keep their coaching staff together. Following the team’s Super Bowl win this season, the possibility of the team’s defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo departing had become real. Realizing that finding his replacement would be a Herculean task, Andy Reid and the team’s front office quickly sprung into action and signed him to a contract to keep him in Kansas City.

HC Andy Reid revealed the sense of urgency the Chiefs felt while bringing Spagnuolo back. Reid admitted Spagnuolo was close to leaving the Chiefs in the offseason and also revealed that a few teams were after him too. He was on the last year of his deal and so I think his dream was to become a head coach and still is. Hopefully, he has that opportunity next year to do that. So, it didn't work out that way so we just jumped on it, knowing that teams were going to be coming after him. There were a couple that came after him...I wasn't asking questions, I was just trying to get it done. Reid said. The Kansas City Chiefs have not disclosed the terms of Steve Spagnuolo’s contract San Francisco 49ers, the team that lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl were one of the teams that was actively pursuing Steve Spagnuolo. The team reached out and before they could get anything done, the Chiefs beat them yet again in front office management as Spagnuolo signed an extension to remain with the team. The terms of his contract have been kept under wraps.
If his true intention is to switch to a Head Coaching role that would mean his contract with the Chiefs could be for a short term, maybe anywhere from one to three years. Would teams be reluctant to offer him a head coaching role? Not really because he is the mastermind behind the Super Bowl champions’ elite defensive strategies. Despite losing defensive stars over the years, the Chiefs’ defense continues to perform and at times has proven to be more consistent than the offense. The credit for this goes to Steve Spagnuolo. His return to the Chiefs is celebrated by the team and resulted in the frustration of their competitors. With Spagnuolo, the team has a better shot at realizing its goal of winning three consecutive Super Bowls.
