KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - An Ambassador from NASA is set to join eclipse-viewers at Legends Outlets to view the rare solar eclipse.

The Legends Outlets say that on April 8, 2024, NASA Ambassador Danielle Joines will be at The Lawn at Legends Outlets, 1843 Village West Pkwy., to answer questions and give partygoers information and interesting facts about the solar eclipse.

Legends officials noted that a total solar eclipse, or the “Great North American Eclipse,” will trace a narrow path of totality from Texas to Maine. While Kansas City is not in the path of totality - a 100% eclipse - the city will still get to witness a partial eclipse - 89% - which is still a rare and special experience.

The outlet indicated that eclipse glasses will be provided for attendees’ safety. Due to limited quantities, glasses will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. NASA’s live feed will also be put on the big screen to provide live views of the eclipse from several locations in its path.

It is important to know that it is never safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing. To review solar eclipse safety guidelines, click HERE.

NASA noted that this will be the last total solar eclipse North America will see until 2044. A solar eclipse happens when the sun, moon and Earth are aligned.
