Missouri is cracking down on welfare fraud, teaming up with the feds to catch cheaters. Missouri has launched Operation Show-Me the Money, a partnership between state and federal officials to identify, investigate and prosecute fraud involving taxpayer-funded benefit programs. The initiative, announced by Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe, Attorney General Catherine Hanaway and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Thomas C. Albus, will use state and Federal resources to identify potential fraud, strengthen oversight and ensure taxpayer dollars are used for their intended purpose. The operation will use three methods to identify fraud, including targeted reviews of individual benefit programs and data across multiple state agencies and programs. Hanaway has requested $454,328.71 in restitution for the stolen Medicaid funds.
